Fishing Report for Sunday, April 3, 2011
Thanks for logging in for this week’s fish report. Sorry it’s late, but I gave my phone swimming lessons and I’ve lost all of your numbers. I’m getting a replacement tomorrow, so please call me at 541-425-1515 and leave me a message so I can get you re-entered into the memory bank. Then I can keep you updated on the hot bites — And these last few trips have been excellent!
So far this springer season, I’ve gone on 7 trips, had 29 bites and landed 19. Only three were wild, and all the rest were hatchery. This season is starting out to be totally fantastic. The water is still extremely high but beautiful in color. I’ve been fishing a lot deeper than normal in 5, 6 and 8 ounce water where the current is running 3.5 to 4 miles an hour.
I hope you enjoy the photos below, and would love to put your pictures on the website as well, with stories of catching lots of fish. So please give us a call at 541-425-1515, and let us make some memories for you. My cell phone will be up and working tomorrow.

~John

Fishing Report for Sunday, March 27, 2011
Hello fellow fishing enthusiasts, and thanks for logging in for this week’s fish report. The 2011 season is starting out to be a great one. In 3 days fishing this last week, I hooked 10 and landed 7. Last year in the month of March, I went 7 times for 7 fish. We’re already starting out to show a much higher catch ratio this year than last.
I firmly believe that Friday I would have caught fish if I was in the right location. My clients came to town the night before, but failed to call and let me know. I would have gotten on the river a couple of hours before daylight in my favorite spots, and I didn’t thinking they weren’t here. They called me at 6:00 in the morning and I was still at home. There was already 7 boats on the water in the location I would have chosen. These clients are great, great people and I hope to get them a fish soon. It is so critical when you’re going with a guide to make sure and let him know that you are there, so he can get the premium spot for you. I feel really bad for not getting fish on Friday and only having one pull down. The location that I had chose had two fish taken that day.
With all the current rain, the river has blown out for a couple of days. We should be back to fishing Thursday or Friday. Weekends are booking up quick. April is booked, so you need to start thinking about May or early June if you’re looking for a weekend, but weekdays are always better because there is less pressure on the river. Looking forward to serving you. Call 541-425-1515 to get your reservation today.

Fishing Report for Sunday, February 20, 2011
Hello and thank you for logging in for this week’s fish report. Now that we’ve gotten some rain, the fishing is excellent. The water has dropped into a beautiful color and its a great time for the opportunity to catch some nice steelhead, and possibly catching the first springer of the year.
To give you an idea of how good the fishing is, three boats were able to hook 11 fish and land nine. That’s three fish per boat, pretty good steelhead fishing. Water conditions are great except it’s still a little bit cold. With a little warmer water it will bring up the temperatures and should really make the fish bite like piranhas.
Have a great week fishing and we’ll be be talking to you soon. If you’re interested in booking a trip, give me a call 541-425-1515.

Fishing Report for Sunday, January 30, 2011
Thanks for logging in for this week’s fish report. On a scale of 1-10, fishing is about a 5-6 right now. The water in the Rogue River is dropping but has plenty of color in it. We’re averaging 5-6 hookups per trip and in most cases we’re landing 2-3 fish per day in the lower river. I’m going to move up a little higher this week, where maybe the fish have had a chance to climatize to the water and perhaps bite a little harder. If you’d like to catch a fish or two, now is a great opportunity so give us a jingle at 541-425-1515 to book your trip.
Towards the end of the month we’re going to get a little more rain, which will warm up the water temperatures. You never know, you might be the one to catch the first Springer. Last year I caught the first springer on March 2 and you might be the lucky one to catch it this year.
Thank you.

Thanks for checking in for this week’s fish report. The water is still high and colored. As a result, the fish are not following their normal traveling patterns in the water and are scattered all around. Even so, we’re still able to hook 1-2 fish a day in these high conditions, but the fishing should improve this weekend as the water continues to drop. I hope to have a great report for you this weekend.

Hello fishing enthusiasts and thank you for checking in for this week’s fish report. First,I’d like to thank Larry Ellis for the article he wrote in the Saturday edition of the Pilot. It’s always a pleasure to fish with Larry. He has an opportunity to meet a lot of top notch guides and is a great source of information. I find it very interesting to learn about other guides fishing river systems other than ours. It helps me in my technique and presentation when I am fishing the rivers they guide upon.
The day that Larry was fishing with us, the river was on a fast rise. We only had an inch of rain but it was warm and it fell throughout the whole state. When we started in the morning the river was 4500 cfs. It did not quit climbing until 4 o’clock the next day and reached 13,500 cfs, blowing the river out. Saturday, the mud from Grants Pass turned the river muddy but it dropped two feet. The three and a half inches of rain we got Saturday night and today has now put us back to about the same height again this evening. I don’t know how high it will go tomorrow.
Come Tuesday or Wednesday, we are going to be smacking fish. Always after a freshet, which means fresh scent going out into the ocean for fish to smell. They are so keenly sensitive to scent they can tell which stream they were born in and will return to that stream in the future. The fish can detect the scent of the mud from their stream and start following it up. I always do the best fishing right after a freshet.
I have plenty of openings, so please give me a call at 541-425-1515 and let us book you into a couple of these nice beautiful fish like Larry caught, or bigger! There’s been a number of 15 pounders caught this year and one may have your name on it too. Thanks for logging in.

Hello, and thank you for logging in for this week’s fish report. The Elk and Chetco are just now dropping into really good shape and the Sixes will be in shape shortly. So if you’re looking for the last chance at getting a Fall Chinook, now would be a good time to go fishing. Give me a call and I’ll hook you up with a good fish trip.
Winter Steelhead is starting to pick up and it looks like it’s going to be a great run. If you like catch and release on wild ones, we can find some for you at any time. We can keep hatchery fish right now. Starting January 1, we’re allowed one wild fish per day per person along with one hatchery. And it’s looking like a great year.
Thank you for logging in,

Fishing Report for Sunday, October 17, 2010
Hi, and thanks for logging in for this week’s fish report. This week on the Rogue River the fishing has been extremely slow, but the Coquille has been extremely good to me. My Wednesday trip on the Coquille, I had three clients and three fish. The big one was 37 pounds.
On Thursday, I had two gentlemen and we caught three fish. I limited one out with a nice 25 and an 18 pounder.
Friday, I had three gentlemen, we had 3 fish on and our big one for the day was 25 pounds Both guys went home with fish. Today I had 3 gentlemen and three fish again. Unfortunately one of the three fish caught was a wild silver and we only had to throw it back.
Fishing the Coquilee is a nice peaceful, enjoyable day and it is very entertaining watching hundreds of fish jump all day long. Talking with the locals, they say this fishing will continue until we get an inch or two of rain at one time. Then the salmon will move upstream to the higher waters. There is not rain in the forecast to speak of this week, and I’ve still got plenty of availability. So give me a call at 541-425-1515 and see if we can make a memory for you.
Thank you,

Fishing Report for Sunday, October 3, 2010
We are having a good run of Wild Silver Salmon right now. Most of the fishing boats today had anywhere from 8-12 bites, landing from 5-7 fish. Unfortunately, 90% of them were wild silvers, which have to be released.
Fishing on the Coquille and the Coos Rivers is still good, putting smiles on the faces of the fishermen. Our bar has been extremely rough for the last week, and as soon as it lays down we should get a good run of Indian Creek salmon coming in for us to catch and keep.
So give Memory Makers Guide Service a call at 541-425-1515 and see what we can do for you.

The Unfreakinbelievable Salmon Trip!
Hi Everyone. Below is a must see video of a fantastic fishing trip. The video was created by Donald Gruener and it will definitely make you want to go fishing. This video captures some great mid-July fishing.
Hello everyone, I wasn’t able to get in much fishing this week because I was out of town helping my son get his Dotson 510 ready for a Mitsubishi turbo charged- 350 horse engine. I did go out on Sunday and it was a slow day. I’m looking forward to getting one of those big 50-plus pounders that have been spotted this year. The video above shows what kind of fishing we can expect in mid-July. Give me a call at 541-425-1515 to book your trip.
